Kerala puts up a good performance in the overall ranking of educational institutions

It is good news for the state in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 released by the Union HRD Ministry. Several universities from the state have been ranked in the top 100 list. However, one of the disappointing facts is that none of the colleges have found a place in the top 100 ranks for medical, dental and pharmacy institutions. The same is the case with law institutions. None of the law colleges found a place in the ranking for law institutions.

Moreover, neighbouring Tamil Nadu has a better performance when compared to Kerala. Tamil Nadu has 18 universities in the overall top 100 list. The state also has 32 colleges in the top 100 college
list.

In the overall ranking Kerala University was ranked 42. This is seven places lower than its last year’s rank. MG University (49), Calicut University (76), IISER, Thiruvananthapuram (80) and Cochin University
of Science and Technology (Cusat) (89) are the other institutions from the state in the overall ranking.

Among management institutes, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) bagged the sixth rank. National Institute of Technology, Calicut, was ranked third and College of Engineering, Trivandrum, 11th place in the ranking of architecture institutes. In the University category, Kerala University was ranked 23, followed
by MG University (30), University of Calicut (54) and Cusat (62). IISER Thiruvananthapuram is a new addition to the list.

The rank of Kerala University rank fell from 35 in 2019 to 42 in 2020 in the overall ranking. However, Mahatma Gandhi University could maintain its rank. National Institute of Technology, Calicut (23), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram (33) and College of Engineering, Trivandrum (85) have been ranked in the top 100 in the engineering college category.

Among the humanities/sciences/commerce colleges there are 20 colleges from the state in the top 100 colleges. This show is better than that in 2019, when only 18 Kerala institutes made it to the list. University College, Thiruvananthapuram, emerged topper in the state with a national ranking of 23.Other top colleges in the top hundred are Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Ernakulam (28), Government College for Women,Thiruvananthapuram (40), St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam (47), Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram (48), Sacred Heart College,Ernakulam (55), St Joseph’s College, Kozhikode (60), St Thomas College, Thrissur (63), Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara (76), St Berchmans College, Changnassery (79), Bishop Kurialcherry College for Women, Kottayam (80) and Government College, Kasaragod (83).
